Vixen ED80Sf Refractor Telescope Optical Tube Assembly
The Vixen ED 80SF refractor telescope was initially listed as an entry level APO, but now with so many astronomers giving us such glowing reviews, it appears that we will need to reclassify this product!
The Vixen ED80Sf refractor features high-grade glass and quality components. At only 22.4", this is our ultimate grab-n-go APO travel scope. Coupled with a medium f/7.5 focal ratio, the ED “S” series provide a sharp, color-free image of high contrast. At only 22.4", this is an ultimate grab-n-go APO travel scope. Transportation is easy with padded, key-lockable travel case included with telescope. (Note that this model does not take 60mm drawtube accessories.)
The Vixen ED80Sf comes complete with a 9x50 finder-scope - Finder bracket - 2" eyepiece adapter - 1.25" Flip Mirror - Tube Rings - Dovetail plate - Aluminum Telescope Case. Included case features reinforced corners, lockable latches, padded handle, rubber feet, three solid foam compartments (for OTA, flip-mirror and finder scope/stalk) and interior eggshell foam on lid. Maximum case exterior dimensions (including hardware) are 66cm x 31cm x 30cm / 26in x 12.2in x 7.9in.

What makes the Vixen ED80Sf refractor package even more special is the Vixen Porta Mount. Far more stable than an entry level altzamuth mount, the multi-purpose Vixen Portamount comes equipped with two fine adjustment handles for whole circle slow motion in both directions, very useful in searching and tracking celestial objects. Slow motion handle positions and the amount of friction on the axes can be adjusted with tools conveniently located in the compartment under the rubber covering. This frees you from the trouble of forgetting the tools at home. In addition, the Vixen Porta Mount is a great for terrestrial viewing. Vixen gear drives make it a simple matter to precisely track a planet or follow a sailboat by simply turning the elevation and/or azimuth control handles. The Vixen Porta Mount is strong, too... When you've outgrown the Vixen ED80Sf Refractor Telescope, it will easily accept other Vixen telescopes. This means you need only purchase another optical tube assembly to step up your observing experience and not a whole telescope package!

VIXEN ED SCOPES
I purchased my ED80SF eight months ago and have been in love with it ever since. As my first purchace of an APO telescope, I wasn't sure of the quality to expect. The ED80SF exceed my wildest expectations. The color correction is superb. Tests on Sirius and Vega showed no fringing whatsoever, even at 125X. The full moon showed only the slightest off-axis fringing. The Porta Mount is exceptionally smooth and easy to use. Overall this is a superb grab and go telescope with great performance at an affordable price. |
