Don't miss the first annual "Telescopes and Cameras in Oceanside", affectionately known as TACO, on Saturday, November 21st from 10AM until 8PM at Oceanside Photo & Telescope! Visit with representatives from Apogee, Bogen, Canon, Celestron, ChronosMount, Explore Scientific, Meade, Nikon, PlaneWave, QSI, Stellarvue, Tamrac, Tele Vue, and Vixen all day long, and see their latest telescopes, photographic & CCD cameras, mounts, lenses, eyepieces, and more in action. Enjoy special one-day only discounts on all of your favorite (or soon-to-be-favorite) gear, and pick up some great gifts for everyone on your list. Take a break from learning about the newest astronomy and photography paraphernalia to check out the photographic art in the OPT Underground Gallery (admission is free) or take a turn at the OPT Prize Wheel! Play for your chance to win t-shirts, coffee mugs, frisbees, gift certificates, and other cool prizes throughout the day!
After the sun goes down, enjoy the chance to look through the same cutting-edge telescopes you drooled over in the afternoon, including the Celestron EdgeHD and Planewave CDK models, and see the amazing results that can be achieved when you image the universe through a high-quality CCD camera like those manufactured by Apogee Instruments or QSI. While at the star party, check out the relatively young waxing crescent moon, the King of the Planets, Jupiter, and some deep-sky objects of the late autumn sky. Make sure to keep one eye on the heavens, too, because you just might catch a late Leonid or Alpha Monocerotid meteor shooting overhead! The star party will begin at approximately 5pm and end at 8pm, weather permitting. Telescopes and Cameras in Oceanside is a free event, so come come on out to OPT for a fun-filled, educational day of astronomy & photography!
Speaking of photography, would you like to learn how to get professional results when photographing the night sky from one of the best in the business? I'm not talking astrophotography here, I'm talking night time scenes that include aspects of both land and sky? Thanks to Canon and night-sky photographer and lecturer, Dennis Mammana, OPT can make that happen. Check out the details below, dust off your camera & tripod, and we'll see you there!

Sunday, November 22nd, 2PM - 7PM
Conducted by Dennis Mammana, Sponsored by Canon USA & OPT
Reservations Required. Cost: $20
Landscape photography is a favorite subject of so many photographers, but the hours between dusk and dawn are normally left to the talents of amateur astronomers. This is truly a shame, because night sky photography, which artistically blends together the beauty of both land and sky, can be achieved with just a camera and tripod...and a few simple techniques. Take your photography to the next level...take it Into the Night!
World-renowned night-sky photographer & lecturer, Dennis Mammana, will help you get to that next level. A two-hour lecture and discussion session will teach you the tools of the night-sky photographer's trade, and afterwards, a hand's on demonstration will allow you to experiment with and refine your new talents. You will leave for home with a whole new perspective on your photography, and with the tools necessary to capture the beauty and majesty of a night sky scene.
The adventure begins at 2PM in the OPT UnderGround Gallery, located beneath the OPT showroom at 918 Mission Avenue in Oceanside. Following the presentation, attendees will take a short field trip to the coastal strip of Oceanside to do some photography. Be prepared for a 1.5 - 2 mile walk, or take your vehicle and meet the other participants at the field trip location.
Canon, who is graciously sponsoring this event, will provide demonstration equipment for attendee use, but the selection and quantity will be limited and should not be expected to take the place of your own equipment. Please be sure to bring your own camera and tripod (DSLR camera preferred). The event will conclude back at the OPT UnderGround Gallery at approximately 7PM.
Photographic events of this nature normally cost $200 or more, but thanks to both Canon & Dennis Mammana, the cost of this one-time, five-hour class is only $20 per person! Space is limited to the first 100 registrants, and reservations are required. Please RSVP by calling or visiting the store or sending an email to cameras@optcorp.com. If you send an email, please make sure to include your contact information and the number of registrants (including yourself) and one of our staff members will contact you for payment. If you need to cancel your reservations we will give you a full refund as long as you contact us by Sunday, November 15th. Refund requests after that date will not be considered. Finally, the outdoor portion of this class is dependent on weather conditions and will not be re-scheduled if it rains. However, the classroom portion of the event will take place rain or shine. For more information about this event, you can call 1-800-483-6287 or send an email to the RSVP address listed above.
