Vixen VMC200L with GPD2 Mount, Tripod and Starbook-S GoTo Package
-
The Vixen VMC200L optical tube assembly corrects light twice on the optical path, resulting in a high level of optical performance.
- Optical correction is placed before the secondary. With no corrector plate, dew problems are almost non-existent.
- The Vixen VMC200L rack and pinion focusing is placed behind primary mirror, resulting in zero image shift.
- This unique modified Cassegrain is very portable, and even includes a built-in handle.
- The Vixen GPD2 Equatorial Mount provides a stable and highly accurate tracking platform that comes fully equipped with metal setting circles, bubble-level, fine adjustment knobs for altitude/azimuth, advanced encoder motors for accurate tracking, an auto-guider port, PEC (periodic error correction) and two counterweights (3.7kg & 1.9kg).
- The Vixen Starbook S, with its GoTo functions and interactive star chart combines the fun of interactive video games with the latest in telescope electronics to give you a rich experience

Vixen VMC200L with GPD2 Mount, Tripod and Starbook-S GoTo Package
The Vixen VMC200L is a unique catadioptric optical system. It incorporates a primary mirror and a meniscus corrector just before a secondary mirror. By doing so, light is corrected twice on the optical path. The end result is that spherical aberration and field curvature are corrected to a high degree of optical performance. The Vixen VMC200L’s primary mirror is f/2.5; the compound optical system is f/9.75. This makes the system much more compact and portable than its competition. With the optical correction placed before the secondary mirror, the VMC200L avoids the necessity of having a corrector plate and all the dewing problems associated with a closed optical tube.
An additional key feature is the rack and pinion focusing that is placed behind the Vixen VMC200L’s primary mirror. The use of this focusing system eliminates the image shift associated with most other SCT systems. This is especially important when using high power magnification or astro-photography. When focusing, the image is stable and easy to adjust.
Now let's talk about the Vixen Great Polaris Deluxe 2 Mount...
This top-of-the-line mount can handle almost twice the weight of the Vixen GPD2 mount because of higher precision machining and the use of more ridged materials, while keeping the GPD2's compact appearance. Periodic motion is abated by the use of durable steel on both axis and the precise R.A. worm gear -- machined to twice the accuracy found on the capable Vixen GPD2 mount. Dual altitude adjustment knobs ease the way to pointing heavier telescopes toward the north celestial pole. Bubble-level, fine adjustment knobs for altitude/azimuth, illuminated polar axis finder and two counterweights (3.7kg & 1.9kg) are standard.
The GPD2 equatorial mount is the stronger and heftier of the GP mounts. With its solid steel R. A. and Declination axes and brass worm gears, this mount will hold up to years of heavy use. In order to assure accurate tracking for astrophotography the worm gears are especially machined to a very high precision that minimizes periodic error. The GPD2 Mount is equipped with a polar axis scope with a built in illuminator. The GPD2 holds almost 50% more weight than the GP2. Includes the STARBOOK S System for full GoTo capabilities.
This model of the latest Vixen Great Polaris mount includes the new Starbook S, a GoTo controller with built-in star chart that shows you exactly where the telescope is pointing and only displays “what’s up” right now. The included (and upgradeable) software contains a 22,000+ object database, giving the user an endless variety of objects to view. Choose from a variety of drop-down menus, including Stars, Planets, Messier, NGC and other famous objects. Each sub-menu only lists the objects that are available to be viewed at that time. This eliminates the frustration of other GOTO systems that don’t tell you the object is below the horizon until after you have selected it. With the Vixen Starbook S you will spend more time viewing and less time searching.
The package includes advanced encoder motors for accurate tracking, and an auto-guider port and PEC (periodic error correction) are both standard features. All of this makes the Vixen GPD2 with Starbook S the most affordable, quality astro-photographer’s mount available.
A Few Words On the Vixen VMC200L Catadioptric Telescope...
"Optically, there’s nothing to complain about. I saw no edge-of-field problems at all and images were crisp and well defined through the eyepiece. The f/9.75 focal ratio is noticeably faster than the typical Maksutov design and, of course, that translates into a wider true field of view with any given eyepiece. Reaching focus is easy, as there is a nice, sharp “sweet spot,” and there is never any doubt when you’ve hit it. I felt this was important, given that the rack and pinion focuser is not currently available with a dual speed option.
Another thing I noticed was that the Vixen attracts attention. At the Star-B-Q event, attendees stopped by frequently and asked questions about it. They were very interested in the scope and very impressed after viewing through it. The large, red Vixen logo prominently displayed on the OTA gives the scope an air of superiority, and the build quality and performance lives up to its looks. The glossy white finish is durable and nice to look at, and the scope is solid throughout. The flip mirror is, in my opinion, something that could be improved on, but as it is a removable accessory, it’s not really an issue. Overall, this is just a really nice, well performing telescope, and a very unique one at that. Lightweight, portable, 8 inches of aperture, fast cool down, zero image shift, and reasonably priced – I guess it may be possible to have your cake and eat it too after all!" -- Erik Wilcox "Astronomy Technology Today"

Great Views!
Having used this system several times now I am amazed at how easy and intuitive it is. The Starbook is incredible and shows me what I can see before I look through the telescope, which is like having a 8 refractor. Tack sharp and brighter than any other 8 telescope I have ever used. Also I found out the Stabook has PEC now and Vixen is coming out with an Autoguider, I'm going to have to save up for a camera now! |
