Televue TV102 Renaissance Brass Refractor Telescope Package
 "At Tele Vue, we always try to provide good value in addition to great optical performance. With the Tele Vue-102 we offer the amateur a simpler, less expensive, 4" refractor which retains Tele Vue's core values; outstanding optical performance and superb mechanical quality.
The new Tele Vue-102 is a 4-inch, 2-element f/8.6 APO air-spaced doublet, similar to the appearance to the 4-element f/5.4 Tele Vue-101, but 5-inches longer. The Tele Vue-102 achieves similar diffraction limited, high power APO viewing as its 4" sibling, along with a wide 3 degree maximum visual field (compared to 4.9 degrees for the Tele Vue-101). A dedicated 0.8x reducer/flattener is available to permit great astrophotography of star fields at f/6.9 with the Tele Vue-102.

The high quality of the TeleVue TV-102 is as remarkably clear as the views. It begins with a precision machined 880mm focal length optical tube that's lined with a flat-black textured material which totally absorbs stray light. At the business end, there's a 102mm (4-inch) extra-low dispersion glass doublet objective lens that gives the system a f/8.6 focal ratio with a limiting magnitude grasp of 12.5 with a stunning resolution of 1.14 arc seconds over a wide, 3º maximum visual field. By incorporating only the most modern optical glass, this air-spaced doublet object is able to render the full visual spectrum on a level of color correction usually only found in refractor telescopes designed with more optical elements or made with high-dollar fluorite glass.
"One particularly memorable testament to the scope's color correction came with an observation of the well-known Double-Double, Epsilon Lyrae. Using a 3-mm Tele Vue Radian eyepiece yielding 293x, both pairs of stars were cleanly split in one field of view. They appeared like miniature versions of the colorful double Albireo, with the bright components appearing yellowish and contrasting nicely with the fainter bluish companions." -- Sky & Telescope Review
When it comes to optical performance, the Tele Vue TV102 doesn't take a back seat, either. Be it minimum or maximum magnification, the standards remain above average. This makes the TV102 an outstanding instrument for double star and planetary studies.
 "I frequently found myself using it for the Moon, planets, and double stars. Indeed, there were numerous occasions when I had satisfying views at 100x per inch of aperture.... It was easy to become so absorbed with the views of Jupiter and Saturn that minutes turned into hours. Shadow transits on Jupiter appeared as sharp black dots. On the evening of October 26th I had one of the finest views of a Galilean moon transit I've ever had with a scope this size. Europa's subtly brighter disk was easily seen against the planet's cloudtops. Even in average seeing, all four Galilean moons appeared as distinct disks; this was especially apparent when there were stars in the same field with which to compare them. Saturn always showed cloud bands on the planet's ball, and there were numerous times when I caught glimpses of ring detail usually reserved for views in much larger scopes.... At the observer's end you'll find a 2" rack-and-pinion focuser with helical-cut gears, fashioned with large, user-friendly knobs that glide with effortless precision. Combined with a retractable dew shield to ward off stray light during daylight terrestrial observing and pesky dew at night, the TV-102 lives up to its legendary TeleVue name.
