APM 203/1420 APO Triplet with CNC LW II Tube and 3.5" Feather Touch Focuser
The 203mm f/7 APO is APM Telescope's newest large imaging machine. The opticians did a superlative job in designing this large, color-free apochromatic lens, even given the challenge of its very fast speed. LZOS did a stunning job of implementing this lens within APM's design parameters. The resulting image quality and color correction of this fast new telescope is so exceptional that it can achieve the same magnification levels as the longer focal length APM 8" f/9 version. APM reports a wonderful first light experience with this new model. Mars was pushed up to 500x with great sharpness and contrast. The Veil Nebula was viewed with great detail under a moderately light-polluted sky without a nebula filter, all thanks to the great contrast of this superb instrument.
The super strong, lightweight CNC LW II tubes incorporated into the design of the APM 203/1420 refractor are manufactured in Germany of the best materials and with fine attention to details and overall mechanical quality. The dew shield slides smoothly over the optical tube assembly without scratching the paint. The tube's internal baffles are matched for a large usable photographic field.
The Starlight Instruments Feather Touch focuser included with the APM 203/1420 APO is a full 3.5". It rotates smoothly and with zero image shift. This zero shift rotation is very important when your camera has already achieved its best focus and you would like to rotate it to the best possible position. The 50mm quick release finder bracket and dovetail base are mounted on the fully rotatable focuser, allowing you to rotate your finder, just like your camera, to the best position. The Feather Touch focuser comes with large anodized knobs, an attached 3.5" to 2" adapter and a 2" to 1.25" clamp-style adapter to protect your eyepieces and diagonals from scratches.
The included tube rings in the APM 203/1420 APO package are flat on both sides and have five tapped 1/4-20 inch holes perpendicular to the tube line with one centered. The middle two hole's center to center spacing is 60mm (2.362") and the outer two hole's spacing is 3.2" (Astro-Physics standard).
What's more you get special glass type OK-4 - designed and melted in LZOS - which allows to achieve perfect color correction within visible range of spectrum. OK-4 glass similar to fluorite has unique optical parameters. Made of OK-4 apo-lenses (apochromatic lenses) ensure image quality characterized by round-mean-square wavefront deviation not exceeding 0.035 wavelength (532nm).
