Vixen A80MF Refractor Telescope

Are you ready for a beginner's telescope that's a cut above the rest? Then take a closer look at the Vixen A80MF Telescope...

Starting with a quality 80mm (3.2”) Vixen Achromatic Refractor which operates at a focal length of 910mm with an f/ratio of 11.4, we have a small, lightweight telescope capable of its maximum magnifying power and reaching a limiting visual magnitude of 11. The telescope body measures 3.9" x 33.9" (100mm x 860mm) and weighs only 5.5 lbs (2.5kg), so it is manageable by even the most inexperienced hands - yet capable of revealing some of the most magnificent wonders of the universe. Through its "eye" you'll reveal the moons of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn, mountains and craters on the Moon, colorful double stars, vast nebula, bright clusters and more... Because the Vixen A80MF makes a great terrestrial telescope, too! Keep an eye on the nesting eagles or spot distant ships on the horizon. The Vixen A80MF Refractor telescope does it all...

Words on the Vixen A80MF Refractor Telescope...

"If you are looking to start out with something a little larger than a beginner scope or need a better finder scope for your large telescope, the A80Mf is the one to buy. Although it is just 10mm larger than its smaller cousin the A70Lf, this extra aperture will reveal more detail in solar system objects and the deep sky. I find myself using the 80mm size for terrestrial viewing of ships on the ocean or whale watching. With an optional sun projection accessory, I have viewed sun spots projected onto a white surface. (Of course NEVER look at the sun directly). The A80Mf,, although inexpensive, is not a toy telescope. It has the same quality glass and exacting workmanship that goes into our much larger instruments." -- Mr. StarGuy

Vixen just looks clearer than my previous scope.
The scope is just excellent for this price range. The optics are crystal clear compared to a Celestron 90mm I had. Very happy with purchase and happy I chose OPT telescopes. Shipped promptly and the scope in great condition on arrival.
it was easy to set up and use the finder to zero in on my targets. The instructions were simple and clear. what more can you ask for? The included eyepieces seem very good quality. I may try to improve even more with accessories but lets' see how a clear moonlit night performs. Using it for astrophotography as its' main use. No CA apparent on daylight scenes. It was apparent with the Celestron.

Some things are really too good to be true and the Vixen A80mf is one of them. I bought one and was very pleased with the views of double stars and nebulae. And then I decided to upgrade...not my scope, but the accessories. I went to Orion and bought a dielectric mirror diagonal and an Epic II ED 18mm eyepiece. My first light with this new rig was startling. I split double stars, saw definition in clusters and goodness, just had a ball. Every so often I'd say, Wow.? The Plossol eyepieces that come with the scope are fine, but my old eyes need a wider field of view. And that Orion dielectric diagonal? It made images razor-sharp. All in all, I think this scope, even without the accessories mentioned here, is a great value and I only wonder why Vixen insists on saying it is not a kids scope. That put me off at first, but I read the specs and the long focal length made it clear that this would split double stars better than my wide-field reflector. I highly recommend this scope.

Behaves like an Apo
I purchased this OTA to use as a guide scope.
Size wise it is about equal to my grab-and-go Orion 90mmEq. However, it has superior chroma free images on Jupiter and Luna. I fit it to the 90mm's mount and use it often. The only weak point to some may be the R&P, 1.25 focuser.
I find it a pleasant scope to use with optics worth 3x what I paid.

bought as a grab and go scope.. and for public viewing...I do own a 100mm 4 TMB ED APO triplet and 80mm 3.1 Skywatcher ED APO but thought the fit and finish of the Vixen 80mm was excellent...first light was Saturn and the moon..was shocked at the incredible sharpness and contrast this level entry scope produced.. almost no colour destortion...rings of Saturn showed incredible detail..lunar views were bright..crisp with so much fine detail..I did change the diagonal to an Orion dialectric...and also used higher end eyepieces...
Far exceeded expectations...for the won't go wrong..worth every dime....
