About the Meade MS-6 6" Maksutov-Cassegrain OTA
The Maksutov-Cassegrain design is a variation on the traditional Schmidt-Cassegrain by utilizing a "meniscus" a curved corrector with the secondary coated directly onto it. The result? Pinpoint stars, gorgeous contrast and color reminiscent of APO refractors but at a fraction of the cost and in apertures most refractors don't dare. Smaller Mak-Cass telescopes boast these benefits in very portable and affordable packages.
The Meade LX70 6" Maksutov Cassegrain performs very well in deep sky, planetary and lunar observations. Resolve details down to 0.76 arc seconds. This optical tube includes a 9mm and 25mm 1.25" Plossl eyepieces to get you started and will adapt to any mount accepting V-series (Vixen Style) dovetails. An 8x50 finder scope with cross-hair reticle help make finding your target easy. A lightweight option for a 6" aperture telescope, the MS6 pairs very well with lightweight EQ and Alt-Az mounts like the Meade LX70.
Meade LX70 German Equatorial Mount
The attractive Meade LX70 German Equatorial Mount includes brass worm-gear drives on both axes with slow-motion controls, aluminum setting circles and built-in leveling bubble. For smooth tracking performance, the large knob slow-motion control cables make it easy to track objects under any viewing condition.
The heavy-duty and lightweight steel tripod is equipped with a full size accessory tray and holds both 2” and 1.25” eyepieces. The adjustable height makes long nights of viewing comfortable for observers of any age.
Available as a stand-alone mount or packaged with Meade’s 5” Achromat, 6” or 8” Newtonian Reflector, or 6” Maksutov-Cassegrain the mount accepts any vixen-style dovetail and can be used for mounting third party optical tubes up to 20 lbs. The LX70 mount breaks down into three lightweight pieces making it portable and easy to set up. The LX-70 Equatorial Mount comes with slow motion control knobs so that the user can manually move the mount in smooth increments to center and/or track any astronomical object.
With Meade’s optional polar scope (670010), finding the celestial poles with high precision is easy. With an optional dual-axis motor drive (670011) the LX70 German Equatorial mount becomes an imaging platform ideal for high-performance observing or astrophotography with the push of a button.

Product QuestionsWhat is the size (diameter) of the secondary mirror on the LX-70 Maksutov, or what percentage of the Primary mirror does the secondary obstruct?Question by: Paul Hartmann on Oct 25, 2015 2:35:00 PMHello Paul,
I've got a call in to Meade to get those specs. They did not have them on hand so as soon as I get them
I'll send you a message. I checked the obstruction on the Ioptron 6" Mak and the secondary is
approximately 2" inches in diameter. That would give it an obstruction of about 11%. I think the two are fairly
similar. We do have the LX-70 in stock with the German equatorial mount. Please give me a call at 800-483-6287
or you can sen me an e-mail if you have any questions. Thanks.
