IDAS Light Pollution Suppression (LPS) Filter - 2" Round Mounted
Item # HU-LPS-D1-48
  • The IDAS Light Pollution Suppression (LPS) Filter was specifically designed for balanced color transmission using the IDAS unique Multi-Bandpass Technology (MBT) process.
  • Presented in a 2" (48mm) threaded format.
  • CCD imaging can also benefit from the IDAS Light Pollution Suppression (LPS) Filter as it provides an added (signal-to-noise) edge.
  • IDAS has now tweaked the LPS-P2 to more optimize for one-shot color and modified DSLR cameras with the LPS-D1.

IDAS Light Pollution Suppression (LPS) Filter - 2"

Now IDAS has tweaked the LPS-P2 to more optimize for one-shot color and modified DSLRs cameras. Please see the response curve in the images above.

The key concept on the LPS-D1 is to reduce the reddish background cast like HEUIB-II while blocking light pollution as much as it can. Although LPS-P2 is effectively blocking light pollution while retaining good color balance comparing with other brand filters, it was not as good as HEUIB-II at shown at following my test when color camera was used.

The LPS-D1 is the answer.

As the response curve indicates, LPS-D1 loses SII emission line while LPS-P2 didn’t. So this is why it's basically intended to be used with one-shot color cameras.

Get rid of that Light Pollution while imaging
The IDAS-LPS filter is one of only a handful of broadband light pollution filters designed for imaging rather than for visual use. The destinction is important: visual filters concentrate on passing primarily green light centered around 480-510 nm - where the human eye sees best in low light conditions - while throwing away a lot of red and blue light. The IDAS-LPS filter cuts out only specific problem wavelengths that allow your camera to record accurate color while improving your Signal to Noise ratio by up to 3x by darkening the background skyglow significantly. Good for all camera types under all light pollution levels (the filter is designed with magnitude 4-5 skies in mind. The 2 filter is better with DSLR and 35mm cameras than the 1.25 due to vignetting issues.
