ZWO ASI120MM Monochrome Astronomy Camera
When it comes to imaging, do you want to do a little bit of everything? The ZWO ASI120MM Monochrome USB 2.0 CCD Camera can image the moon & planets, it can image the sun with the proper filtration, it comes with a 150º lens for "all sky camera" views, and the ASI120MM is sensitive enough to capture bright deep-sky objects! This camera from ZWO is truly a "do everything" camera, but at way less than the competition! The ZWO ASI120MM camera uses a 1/3" CMOS MT9M034 sensor, with a pixel array of 1280 x 960 and a pixel size of 3.75 um. Peak QE is 75%, with no fixed pattern noise! A clear window is included that will protect the sensor. A major bonus is the inclusion of a 150º wide angle lens attachment! When connected to the camera, you can do super wide angle shots similar to that produced by an all-sky camera. Capture images of the Milky Way stretched overhead, or record the look of the night sky you experienced on a special vacation. With the ZWO Astronomy Camera, you can do it all! One of the major features of the ZWO ASI120MM camera is its ability to deliver up to 215 frames per second at reduced resolution, or up to 35 fps at full resolution. The wide range of capture resolution settings available with this camera allows you to go from planetary imaging to deep-sky quickly and easily, without the need for another camera. The beautiful red housing of the ASI120MM is made of aluminum, and sports a USB and ST4-type auto guider port. 6.5-foot cables for both are included in the box. The 2" interface has M42X0.75 internal threads. A standard M42 to 1.25" nosepiece rounds out the package. The underside of the camera has one 1/4-20 thread in its center, and four M4 threads evenly spaced around the outside edge. This camera comes with a 2m long USB cable, a 2m long ST4 guider cable, 1.25" clear window, 150º wide angle lens attachment, Driver & Software CD, and a M42-1.25" nosepiece. Software on the CD includes the users manual, Windows camera driver, ASCOM Driver, SharpCap Image Capturing Software, FireCapture Image Capturing software, and Stakkert 2 Stacking Software.

- Very sensative
After reading up on the ZWO I finally purchased one to use mainly as an Auto guider. I had read that AMD chip computers had issues with this camera, but apparently this issue has been resolved as my Acer AMD X2 ran all the software and camera with no issues. Camera was very sensitive and was recognized by PHD 2. Overall I am very please with the performance of this camera.

- ZWO 120MM
Have a ZWO120MC, with which I'm very pleased and, wanted the MM for solar imaging with my Lunt 60 DSPT with which I ordinarily use a DMK41 with good results. The MM has a ton of Newton's rings on H1a images and, they're worse with a Barlow - OK for lunar and planetary though but, this particular one will have to bow to the DMK41. Overall, the ZWO's are great little cameras and, particularly for the price. Wish they made a CCD rather than CMOS for a competitive price.
FireCap 2.3 seemed a little intimidating at first however, it turns out to be great capture software and, I use it routinely with the DMK41 rather than IC Cap. FireCap is rich with options and control which make it superior to others. Kudos to the team that wrote it.

- Questions & Answers
Product QuestionsThis camera has an autoguider port with ST-4 guider cable for direct connection to the mount. The specs say no integrated autoguider. Does this mean I will need autoguider software on laptop with the program reading the camera and sending control via the single USB cable back through the camera base to the mount.....no need for direct interface between laptop and mount (i.e., GPUSB)?I would like to take pictures with a Meade LXD 75 5" refractor of the eclipse this summer. How is this camera for this?Question by: Gordon Kirkland on Feb 15, 2017 5:16:00 PMIf you have a solar filter, this will work for the eclipse, but it will not cover the full solar disk at 1200mm focal length. You could shoot a mosaic, but that may not work near totality. A camera with a larger sensor like the ASI1600 or ASI071 would be needed to get a full solar disk image in 1 shot.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Feb 15, 2017 5:26:00 PMWhat do I need to connect this camera to a newtonian without any focus issues? I have 40 mm of back focus travel.Question by: Mathew Maskas on Oct 8, 2015 10:48:00 AMYou will not have an issue with this camera, as it has a native backfocus of ~15mm and the flange on the 1.25" nosepiece adds ~3mm more for a total of ~18mm used. It may be tricky to attach a filter wheel with this configuration, but we might have an option available. Please contact us by phone or e-mail email@example.com if you have questions.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Oct 8, 2015 1:39:00 PMCan this camera take solar images, planets & deep space objects such as other galaxies? Thank You...Question by: Bob S on Aug 11, 2014 7:25:04 AMThis camera has small pixels and high quantum efficiency, making it very good for high speed solar, lunar, and planetary images. For fainter deep sky images, I would recommend either using it on a smaller, faster telescope below ~1000mm focal length or binning the camera 2x2.Answer by: Chris (Admin) on Aug 13, 2014 8:16:53 AM
