The ASI 1600 is yet another remarkable Astro-imaging camera from ZWO's ASI series, boasting remarkable specifications in all fields, just as has become expected of the ASI family of Cameras! This kit in particular comes packaged with ZWO's 7x36 Filter Wheel and an LRGB Filter Set to slot inside of it, making this a ready to use CCD once you've adapted it for your telescope of choice. The built in USB hub that is part of the camera body also helps- and is designed so you can link the included EFW directly to it to power it via the same connection that is being used to power the camera itself! Speaking of power, the camera can run without external power in normal mode- that is, without cooling or the filter wheel in use. When using the cooling system, a power supply of 12V at 2.5A is recommended. A battery operating anywhere in the range of 9-15V is also acceptable.
As for the cooling system itself? It's a regulated two stage Thermoelectric Cooling System, capable of pushing at maximum 40 to 45 degrees below the ambient temperature. The Camera itself operates optimally within the temperature range of -5°C—45°, and is best stored within the temperature range of -20°C—60°C. This powerful cooling system complements the naturally low read noise of the camera to further refine the quality of images produced- aiding ZWO in continuing to provide CCD quality at CMOS prices. Product QuestionsCan you please verify the back focus distance with this combo? I see the camera itself is 6.5mm and my rough measurement of the filter wheel is 20mm so I'm guessing it is 26.5mm but I'd like confirmation. I need to get an extension tube for a focal reducer to equal 55mm total. 28.5mm is my guess is correct.Question by: John McKay on Apr 6, 2017 2:10:00 PMIf you remove the black 11mm long T2 spacer, the ASI1600 camera is shortened to 6.5mm. The filter wheel housing is 20mm, but you need to subtract ~0.6mm for refraction if using ZWO filters, so the effective length is 19.4mm.
29.1mm would be the ideal length spacer to get to 55mm, but most reducers have tolerances of +/- 1mm, so a spacer between 28-30mm in length should work well.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on May 4, 2017 2:46:00 PM
