Counterweights mounted on a shaft are reserved for equatorial mounts, but what happens when you have a fork mounted telescope and need some counterbalance for a heavy imaging or observing set up?  Use a tube weight.  Tube weights are slim weights that slide along a dovetail that is mounted to the underside of your optical tube.  As you move the tube toward the corrector plate, it offsets the weight on the back of the telescope, alleviating any undue stress on your mount gears.
