The Explore Scientific Telescope Drive Master (TDM) greatly decreases drive errors, thereby giving you 1 arc-second tracking capability while allowing you to keep your current mount.

The TDM was conceived by accomplished Hungarian amateur astronomers, Istvan Papp & Attila Madai of MDA Telescoop. They wanted to solve the issue concerning tracking imperfections ubiquitous in all equatorial mounts and the Telescope Drive Master was the outcome. Through the use of a separately available mount-specific adapter, the TDM is made to connect to an assortment of popular equatorial mounts. The TDM employs an ultra-high resolution encoder with an electronics package that converts your drive system into a research-grade drive with superb performance. Tedious PEC training is not necessary. Almost all of the periodic and non-periodic tracking errors of your equatorial mount are removed simply by turning on your Telescope Drive Master.

The TDM electronic controller unit analyzes incoming signals coming from the high precision rotary encoder mounted to the RA shaft against the time signal of its quartz oscillator. Any RA shaft angular velocity discrepancies from the prescribed drive rate are recouped by feedback regulation in real time through speeding up or slowing down the drive. The TDM also allows auto-guider input in case further correction is necessary due to non-periodic drive errors. In general, a drive on a reasonably priced equatorial mount may have 20-30 arc seconds or more of periodic error by conservative estimates. The TDM will easily reduce this down to 2 to 2.5 arc-seconds peak-to-valley, something you would find with exponentially more expensive equatorial mounts. In many instances that number will experience an even bigger decrease down to 1 arc-second.
