The new HyperStar 3 lens allows the use of sensors up to 27mm diagonal (APS-size). It also works with DSLRs in addition to a variety of CCD cameras.
Starizona HyperStar 3 Lens - 11'' Celestron Edge HD
HyperStar is based on Celestron's innovative Fastar feature. This feature allows the secondary mirror to be removed from Celestron's 8", 11", and 14" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. By mounting the HyperStar lens assembly in place of the secondary mirror, a CCD camera can be mounted at the front of the telescope allowing for a wider field of view and much faster imaging.
The HyperStar lens assembly works with a variety of cameras from SBIG, Starlight Xpress, SAC, Orion, Meade, and Astrovid. Different cameras require different adapters, however. One adapter is included with the HyperStar lens. Please specify the camera being used when ordering. A holder is included for safe storage of the secondary mirror while imaging.
The HyperStar systems allows the telescope to operate at a focal ratio of f/2, an incredible 25 times faster than the standard f/10 focal ratio! Images can be obtained in just seconds! This model includes the required adapter ring to fit the HyperStar lens to the Edge HD model telescope. An additional adapter would be required to adapt this lens to an older (non-HD) telescope. - Questions & Answers
have seen youtube demonstrations of hyperstar which discuss removing the star diagonal to install a counterweight. Is the counterweight supplied or must it be sourced elsewhere?
Thank you in anticipation.
SJ MCHUGHQuestion by: SJMCHUGH on Aug 7, 2015 5:12:00 AMAccording to Starizona, the counterweight is included at no cost only if you indicate at time of order that your optical tube is mounted on a fork mount (CPC Deluxe or other mounts for older C11 scopes). The counterweight is not needed for a C11 EdgeHD on an equatorial mount as you can simply slide the optical tube backwards on the rail to bring the Hyperstar and camera into balance.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Aug 7, 2015 10:34:00 AMHi,
Will the counterweight interfere with or damage the optics located in the CPC11 Edge HD baffled tube. Or do they sit far enough back that the counterweight will not make contact?
Thank youQuestion by: Perry on Jan 17, 2017 8:29:00 AMQuestion by: ron55 on May 28, 2014 4:37:20 PMThe price for any of the Hyperstar lens systems includes one adapter for the camera of your choice. If you specify that you have the Orion G3 Deep Space Color Imaging camera in the comments when you order, we will be able to order the Hyperstar with the correct camera adapter included.Answer by: Chris (Admin) on May 29, 2014 11:59:06 AMKindly include in the list of required accessories and suggest, how will we cover the lens after installation / usage. As the front existing cover of EdgeHD will no longer work.Question by: Shahid on Sep 16, 2015 10:59:00 PMWhen ordering a Hyperstar, the adapter to the camera is included, but you will need to let OPT know what camera you are using so that the correct adapter can be ordered for you. The Hyperstar also includes caps, a hard case, a holder for the secondary mirror, and if you have a fork mount on a wedge (CPC or CPC deluxe), a counterweight for the back of the telescope is included (you will need to tell us which scope you have at time of purchase, as the default Hyperstar does not come with the weight)
Astrozap sells special short Hyperstar dew shields that can be purchased separately: http://www.optcorp.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?dir=desc&manufacturer=90&order=relevance&q=hyperstar. With that in place, you can cover the scope with an Astrozap Dew Shield Cap: http://www.optcorp.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?cat=123&dir=desc&order=relevance&q=cap.
Without the correct dew shield and cap for your scope noted above, you will have to remove the Hyperstar at the end of each night to put the telescope's original cap back on.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Sep 17, 2015 11:11:00 AM
