- Terrific value
I have a G-11 and an Sbig St200xm, a great mount and camera but have had problems getting consistent guiding due to the difficult in acquiring and keeping guide stars when shooting through filters. I bought this Awesome Autoguider package and had immediate, incredible results. The camera sets up easily and has a large display that shows plenty of stars. It automatically calibrates the mount and then starts guiding. My first image was an experiment, I used ten minute exposures and had perfect round stars the first time out. My next night out I shot 4 ea, 4minute LRGB images without stopping. I just set the unit and went in the house (cold outside. The result was the best set of exposures I've ever had. Perfect round stars, never a problem. This is the best money I've spent in a long time. I also bought the Astrodon CLS imaging filter and it makes shooting from the city a cinch, what a package!

Product QuestionsWill the auto guider of this unit run on windows 7? And if not, may I return the unit I just purchased from you?Question by: Galileo on Oct 10, 2014 5:51:15 AMYes, the Starshoot Autoguider will work on Windows 7 just fine. You just need to download the Windows 7 drivers from Orion's website here: http://www.telescope.com/Orion-StarShoot-AutoGuider/p/99565.uts.Answer by: Chris (Admin) on Oct 10, 2014 8:30:09 AMDoes this work with Vixen StarBook 10, or do you need to add the Vixen Advance Unit (and will it work with that, or do you need a PC as well)? Also, will it work with a Mac?Where can I find the rings and dovetail wihtout the tube? I'm actually trying to buy the telescope and the rings and dovetail but without the camera and I can seem to find it on the website. Do you have such thing published? And if not, is there a link just for the rings and dovetail? Thanks in advanceQuestion by: Guille on Jul 8, 2016 2:40:00 PMOrion sells the rings and dovetail separately, but not together as a bundle. The items you need are OR-7381 (https://www.optcorp.com/orion-105mm-guide-scope-rings-7381.html) and the OR-7385 (https://www.optcorp.com/or-7385-13inch-dovetail-plate-for-orion-mounts.html).Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Jul 8, 2016 3:42:00 PMQuestion by: JimAstro on Dec 8, 2014 9:30:16 AMUnfortunately, 400mm is fairly short to guide a 2800mm focal length scope. The best option is an OAG, but second choice would be a guide scope in the 550-800mm range. If you have the 0.7x focal reducer from Celestron, then a 400mm guide scope might just work, but a longer guide scope with heavy duty hardware would yield more accurate guiding.Answer by: Chris (Admin) on Dec 8, 2014 12:30:44 PMdoes this work with skywatcher EQ6 goto mount and 120mm APO ED telescope. I am wondering about the mounting bar, whether it will fit or do I have to buy a different mounting bar?Question by: nagesha kasinath on Jan 10, 2016 9:50:00 AMThis autoguider package should work with this scope and with most other refractors and EQ Newtonians as long as the telescope's rings can be lined up with screw holes on the included rail. At worst, one dovetail for either top or bottom may need to be purchased, or a hole may need to be drilled into the top or bottom plate to allow the screws to line up.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Jan 11, 2016 5:14:00 PMQuestion by: adem akif on May 29, 2015 12:39:00 AMAdem,
I think that package is bit of an overkill for the 8" SE. First of all, it's a fairly heavy package, which means that
you would have to balance the package out on the other side of the tube. The alt-az mount is not
really designed for long exposure tracking; it's more a visual mount. You would be better off getting a AVX equatorial
mount for deep sky imaging along with a focal reducer for deep sky imaging. You would be better off getting the Orion Magnificent Mini AutoGuider Package
with a focal reducer for that scope, although an equatorial mount would be better suited for imaging.Answer by: Steve Thornton (Admin) on Jun 2, 2015 1:15:00 PMQuestion by: Don on Aug 27, 2015 7:57:00 AMPart of the package can be used, but the dovetail rail and rings will need to be changed. The included rail is used to mount onto rings on a Newtonian or refractor, and is not the correct length or type to connect to your telescope. You will need a V or D series dovetail rail from either ADM or Losmandy and then a set of compatible dual rings at least 100mm in diameter to hold the guide scope and camera. Given the retail cost of the 80mm guidescope and Starshoot Autoguider, this package may still be a good option for you.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Aug 27, 2015 10:58:00 AMIt says in the description "•Includes everything you need for accurate autoguiding, you just supply the imaging scope and mount! ". But don't you also need a power source, a computer with the right software?Question by: TSJones on Feb 20, 2015 8:03:13 AMNo answers yet. Be the first to answer the question!
