Product QuestionsIf a planetary camera like a Skyris or ZWO ASI 174MM has a 1.25 inch nosepiece, can the cameras nosepiece be inserted into the 1.25 adapter hole that comes with the powermates--like an eyepiece would? Or do you have to use the T-ring and thread the camera directly to the powermate via a T-ring adapter for the skyris or directly to the filter wheel for the ZWO.? I can do both but which is better?Question by: Rodd Dryfoos on Apr 3, 2016 11:23:00 AMTeleVue designed the Powermates to be exceptionally flexible, with regards to image-plane placement relative to the top (camera-side) of the Powermate body. So in a way, the answer to your question is "both".
In instances where the camera has a sensor large enough to see vignette from the 1.25" nosepiece receiver, the Powermate T-adapter is a good thing to have. That is also the case for heavier cameras, where the security of a threaded interface will be wanted. For smaller, lighter cameras with smaller sensors (like the ones you have mentioned) there is not a compelling need for the T-thread adapter.Answer by: Eric Blackhurst (Admin) on Apr 5, 2016 4:41:00 PM
