Daystar 80mm Scope / Quark Bundle - Chromosphere Version
This top notch Telescope from Daystar is a stunning combination of quality performance and stellar value. Capable of both solar viewing and night-time use at a high level due to it's design, this is a truly splendid investment. Just insert the Quark in the Diagonal to begin solar viewing, and remove it after nightfall for night time viewing or imaging! This Chromosphere variant is more focused on the surface of the sun in solar viewing than anything else, bringing out more surface details. The QUARK contains a custom Daystar Instruments 4.2X telecentric barlow lens fully optimized in coatings and optical design specifically for the Hydrogen Alpha wavelength. This highly specialized telecentric lens offers superior field flatness. No specific FWHM bandpass is designated. This telescope works very well with a wide range of filters to further increase it's versatility to more and more useful levels, of course. The new, compact design configuration eliminates unnecessary components, weight and associated costs. The device also boasts reduced power consumption, so the Quark can now operate all day off a small, palm-sized optional battery pack. Baffles have been added to increase contrast and AR coatings are optimized for the 656nm wavelength.

Product QuestionsI think there may have been some confusion in my last question. The 80mm scope that is included with this combo, how well is it for nighttime astrophotography? How does it compare to the AT72ED? I plan on using the scope for more than just daytime use and solar photography.Question by: Anthony P May on Jan 2, 2017 5:44:00 PMThe included telescope in this package is an achromatic f/6 doublet, so it will have significant false color when used for night sky imaging. That all goes away with an emission line filter for the sun like the Quark, as there is no need for Apo multi-wavelength correction when you are only looking at one narrow wavelength.
This scope will be superior for solar imaging to a 72mm ED doublet, but the ED doublet will outperform it for nighttime use.Answer by: Chris Hendren on Jan 3, 2017 10:40:00 AMI'm trying to decide between this combo or getting the quark and pairing it with the Astro-Tech AT72ED. Is there any more information on this scope in order to compare the photo- imaging quality with the AT72ED?Question by: Anthony P May on Dec 11, 2016 11:04:00 AMWhen using an emission line filter like the Quark, there is no benefit to using an APO lens as you are only looking at one wavelength. The 80mm will deliver better resolution and will likely have a sturdier focuser than the AT72, meaning it will have a slight edge. If you already own the 72 and a 2" diagonal, just getting the Quark is an option, but the 80mm will deliver better performance.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Dec 13, 2016 12:57:00 PM
