Coronado SolarMax II 60 H-Alpha Filter with BF10 and RichView Tuner
The Coronado SolarMax II 60 H-Alpha Filter is part of a series of thermally stable H-alpha filters for installation on the user's telescope. All the filters in this series are thermally stable and mount to the front of of the telescope. They provide very high resolution and give unsurpassed views of the finest of surface details, including plage, flares, filaments, prominences, and granulation when mounted to a good quality telescope.
This SolarMax II 60 comes with a BF-10 blocking filter, a secondary interference filter which mounts at the eyepiece end of the telescope. You cannot use the individual units (either the blocking filter or the front-mounted SolarMax's) separately. The BF10 is mounted inside the body of a 1-1/4" right-angle diagonal. It is optimized to provide a full disc image on telescopes with a focal length of up to 1000mm.
About the RichView Tuner...
Some events on the Sun, notably active flares and coronal mass ejections (CME's) are extremely fast moving. If such features occur on the disc of the Sun, their high velocity towards the observer results in their wavelength being Doppler-shifted shorter than Ha. If the velocity is high enough, this wavelength could be outside the passband of the filter and the feature would not be observable. The RichView allows the user to de-tune the SolarMax II slightly to bring such phenomena into better visibility. The RichView fits between the SolarMax II and it's adapter plate, sold separately. A simple rotary wheel movement accomplishes the tilt necessary to move the passband of the filter. Because of the filter's position at the front end of the telescope, this does not compromise the performance of the filter nor limit the Ha field of view as is the case with rear-mounted filters.

- Awesome Rayz
I purchased a 60mm with BF10 and T-max from OPT in December of 2004. I really didn't know what to expect as it was my first Solar telescope. I did some research and found that the Solar Max line was capable of attaching to my Orion 80ED with the correct adapter. OPT helped me get the right adapter for my scope and the filter was in stock so I had it in a couple of days.
The view was simply breath taking. The filter is built very solid from quality aluminum parts. It comes in a case which holds the main filter and the BF filter. It also has slots in the case for eyepieces. The filter performed so well and I was so taken by the view I got a 2nd filter 5 months down the road to take the view from <.7 angstrom to <.5 angstrom. The 60 is just the right size for full disk images and medium closeups. It provides both portability and resolution in a small package.
