From the mind of Howie Glatter - laser pointer and collimation guru - comes the Howie Glatter Solar Telescope Binocular Platform. Now you can take full advantage of using both eyes through two solar telescopes at the same time!
Howie Glatter Solar Telescope Binocular Platform
The Howie Glatter Solar Telescope Binocular Platform offers precision machined craftsmanship that mounts twin PSTs or Lunt Solar Systems telescopes to a platform that attaches to any standard photo tripod head or can be adapted to an existing telescope mount. Just insert the telescope tubes and adjust the screws for perfect parallel alignment. But as binocular observers know, that's not all there is... Howie Glatter thought of that, too... and the Howie Glatter Solar Telescope Binocular Platform also allows you to adjust for interpupillary distance, too!
Take full advantage of h-alpha solar viewing with the twin vision of the PST, Lunt Solar Telescope and the Howie Glatter Solar Telescope Binocular Platform!

I got an extended look through an early version of this rig at Stellafane some years ago, the views were excellent.
While actual depth perception at 1 AU distance can't be very pronounced, I found using both eyes to be more comfortable, and was able to concentrate more on what I was observing than on the mechanics of observing.
It was easy to compare using both eyes to using one, and both eyes sure seemed to show me more.
The sun was very active that day, and the ease with which it was possible to comfortably view the changing prominences over long periods of time was remarkable.
Also, the design and build quality was good; sturdy and steady. The adjustments were easy to use, not fussy.
Unlike many pieces of equipment that have been analyzed for low production costs, this mount appears to have been the result of a straightforward design process from idea to clever execution, with little compromise, except for the need to make it on general purpose equipment instead of custom production tools.
Knowing what it takes to manually make such a device on a milling machine, or to set up a CNC mill to accurately reproduce one, I think the price is more than fair.
