You have to select Mercury in order to track the Sun. slewing gears sound like a noisy coffee grinder. when the tracking motor stars it has an annoying squeal/buzz that continues throughout the viewing time. Tripod is flimsy and plastic locks are fragile..

A Great Valued Tripod
A very cost effective tripod for use with the PST. Assembles easily in minutes. I got tired of lugging my Meade LX-90 outside and piggybacking the PST onto it. A light and very portable tripod - performs just nicely for photography or observing.

My only gripe was that it does not have a +12VDC input jack for external power supplies. Well, for $3.25 I bought a connector at Radio Shack and took care of that issue. Works like a champ. Either way, it's much better than a standard camera tripod and easier on the back than using with the night-time telescope.

Overall, very pleased.

DSM
This works great with PST's. Wish it had the Sun as part of the database. However, you can add it as part of the asteriod list. It is simply the best for the price.
