Product QuestionsI would like to use the filter to protect my eyes while using a magnifying glass as a solar firestarter for wilderness survival equipment. Do you think this would be a good choice?Question by: MaxHiker on Oct 3, 2014 6:30:21 PMThis filter has an optical density of 5.0 (100,000x reduction - darker than most protective welding goggles), meaning that the only thing you can see through this is the sun itself and possibly the reflection of the sun off the magnifying glass. The magnifying glass, ground, tinder, sky and everything else will be completely black through this filter. For your stated purpose, something more like welding protection with a lower optical density might be more advisable - though that protection would not be safe to look directly at the sun with.Answer by: Chris (Admin) on Oct 7, 2014 10:40:42 AM
