A Revolution in Affordable H-Alpha Observing

The QUARK from DayStar filters marries a high-tech telecentric 4.2x Barlow lens with an exceptionally high quality DayStar h-alpha filter.  Combining the Barlow, filter, adapters and snouts into one highly compact and innovative design.  This all-in-one design is simply dropped into a diagonal, add an eyepiece and you're ready to observe!    Compatible with refractors with focal ratios between f/4 and f/8 and best used with eyepieces with focal lengths between 25mm and 40mm, the QUARK will allow most refractor owners to view the sun without any additional equipment purchases.

Because the exact filter bandpass will vary depending on the refractor it is paired with, the QUARK has been configured into two models.   By offering the QUARK at a very reasonable price, Daystar has made your solar observing goals obtainable! By choosing the chromosphere model, the QUARK will highlight solar surface detail specifically. If it's solar flares and prominences you're after, the Prominence model is the one for you.  Want it all? Get both!

Ease of viewing and spectacular sights!
I've been a dedicated deep-sky imager for many years - kind of interesting how you just seem to stop actual observing when you're into imaging. Finally got a kick in the pants from a friend who woke me up to broaden my horizons and get back into observing. I decided to start with solar, since it'd been years, and selected the QUARK Chromosphere model. Unbelievable is an understatement. This instrument not only produces spectacular views, but is simple to use and is very well-made. I'm looking forward to using a video camera (Skyris 618) to record some of the wonderful attributes of our parent star. I highly recommend the QUARK as a terrific compliment to anyone's observing equipment collection.

Thank You Daystar!
As the other reviewer I am strictly a visual observer. Not owning any other solar scope but wanting to once again do some solar observing (years ago had one of the original Daystars from Del Woods) I decided on the Quark and it absolutely was the right decision. I am currently using it on my TMB 80 and 92 SS both scopes show amazing images using TV Plossl's and Pan's.

I also use a 2" UV/IR cut and after reading the other review might get a Red filter. I'd like to try the Quark on my TMB 130SS but was a bit hesitant because of possible heat issues. So far with the 80 and 92 there is no heat problems so put that to rest.

The detail this filter displays are nothing less than spectacular. I opted for the Chromosphere Model as I saw it as probably the best of all worlds and after using it I am certainly not disappointed in that assessment.

Thanks to Daystar and OPT...

Incredible Views!
I purchased the Chromosphere model and I could not be happier with it. I'm strictly a visual observer and in addition to the Quark I own a double stacked PST and a double stacked SMII 60. I use binoviewers in all of the scopes. While the two Coronado scopes are excellent performers the Quark takes the views to a level that they cannot possibly reach. I've used the Quark in 80mm, 102mm, 120mm, and 150mm refractors. The views of surface features as well as prominences and spicules in the 102mm thru 150mm rival high quality photographs. I use a 2" Baader UV/IR cut and a Baader Red LP filter ahead of the diagonal instead of a full aperture ERF. The heat has posed zero problems that I can detect. Full disk views are possible at focal lengths up to 750mm with 40mm Plossls and a 0.5X focal reducer screwed into the bottom of the Quark. I rarely use the F/R because once you see the detail that the 4" and 6" scopes show at higher powers you will be hooked. Daystar has done the amateur astronomy community a huge service by bringing the Quark to market.

Do I need a whitelight fliter or a H-alpha filter on the objetive?

Hello
Can i using the daystar quark h-alpha chromosphere model on my Celestron SC 8 inch??

Hi OPT,
I have the Chromosphere version on order. I'll be using a Stellarvue 80mm refractor as the scope. It seems from reading different materials that 80mm is the cut-off size for needing the UV/IR filter - do you agree, or do I absolutely need it? Also, I'd like to do video-imaging, as well, (Skyris 618 purchased earlier). Do I still need to put the Quark in a diagonal, or can I use it straight through - as with planetary imaging - then put the camera in the Quark?
