Product QuestionsAloha OPT, can the stock Vixen saddle/clamp be replaced with a Losmandy D style saddle/clamp (or a Vixen/Losmandy dual type saddle)? If so, do you have any recommendations? Thanks!Question by: John on Jun 30, 2016 10:20:00 AMUnfortunately, there is no way to do so in a way that would not either violate the product's warranty or be very unstable. As the largest tube this mount can support is ~15 lbs, there would be no need for something as heavy as a D-series plate to support whatever scope you wanted to attach.Answer by: Chris Hendren on Jun 30, 2016 10:36:00 AMHow does the handset connect to the mount? RS232? How long can this cable be? If the mount is connected to a computer, does it use a different port, or does the computer replace the handset?Question by: George on Nov 9, 2016 12:03:00 PMThe Nexstar hand control connects to the mount with a RS232 cable. With an extension the cable could be quite long, up to 30'. If you want to connect the mount to a computer you would connect a Celestron CE-93920 cable to the hand control. That cable gets plugged into a Celestron USB to serial converter, CE-18775 which gets plugged into your computer.Answer by: Charles Walker (Admin) on Nov 9, 2016 12:33:00 PMWhich dovetail do I need to put on my old Nexstar 8 silver tube OTA that will attach to this mount?Question by: David Majors on Oct 15, 2016 11:20:00 AMA vixen style dovetail will be needed to attach you scope to this mount. We offer solutions from Losmandy and ADM that can be attached to your scope. Please give us a call at 1-800/483-6287 or send us and email to email@example.com to discuss the different options that will fit your optical tubeAnswer by: Jonathan Cheek (Admin) on Oct 29, 2016 1:30:00 PMDoes this mount have encoders with memory. For example,You aligned scope and are looking at mxxx;now you decide to look at Jupiter and you manually unlock the lock and manually move to Jupiter. Then now you want to slew back to mxxx will the mount remember its location and slew back to mxxxx?I have your 6" f4 imaging Newtonian. I was wanting a quick and easy alt/az go-to mount for when im not doing astrophotography. Will this work for me?Question by: Christopher Barry on Sep 2, 2016 5:23:00 AMThe telescope will technically attach using a V-series plate, but the long tube on the OS-6IN will have issues with running into the base of the mount when pointed above around 45 degrees. Without adding a wedge, it is doutful that you could pint near the zenith with this setup, so this mount is not recommended for that scope.Answer by: Chris Hendren on Sep 5, 2016 9:49:00 AMI am interesting in getting a go to mount and tripod for traveling. When the tripod is collapsed how long is it? Can the mount be removed from the tripod and packed separately? I would like to fit it into a carry on suit case.
Thanks!Question by: Derrick S Shadel on Jul 27, 2016 3:56:00 PMDerrick,
The tripod is 28" when collapsed. The mount head does separate from the tripod. I would recommend using this: https://www.optcorp.com/sirius-tech-scb-456se-100-soft-case-for-nexstar-4-5-and-6se-no-foam-blue.html
The case holds the packing foam from the mount head perfectly!
