Software Bisque Paramount MX+ Equatorial Mount New Features and Changes

  • Upgraded servo motors. The Paramount MX+ now employs the same long life, high-torque, brushless servo motors that are used by the Paramount ME II.
  • Higher payload capacity. The Paramount MX+ can carry up to 100 lb (45 kg) of equipment, or 200 lb (90 kb) equipment plus counterweights.
  • Optional higher maximum slew rates of up to 10 degrees per second. An optional, higher wattage power supply is sold separately.
  • To accommodate the larger motors, the original Paramount MX Three Position Switch has been replaced with a Two Position Switch that places an axis in balance and track mode. There is also a separate rotating knob that allows each axis to be locked during transport.
  • Easier to maintain:
  • Worm and gear “cam stop” adjustments can be made without removing the worm block covers.
  • All servo motors have the same motor initialization value, so that axes-specific “index angle” values are no longer necessary.

Paramount MX+
Received this mount a few days ago and I cant believe how well made it is, I could only find a handful of plastic parts (screw hole covers) the rest of the parts are metal built to hi tolerances. Yes the mount is expensive but trust me you get what you pay for. The software is top notch and Tanya at OPT once again made sure everything was perfect. I will be coming back to OPT because of her.

Stunning & beautifully engineered mount
I am really delighted with this mount. It represents the pinnacle of where automated astronomy is going for the 21st century. The paramount MX+ is beautifully engineered and very well thought out. It makes other mounts look an uncoordinated mess as its ergonomics are simply unbeatable in my opinion.

The mount has pin point accuracy and the plate solving is amazing with a precision that can point to an individual belt on Jupiter

The software is quite complex and takes a few weeks to get to grips with but the forum support is excellent with a great community & support from Software Bisque.

The service & delivery from OPT has been up to the usual very high standards and I'm now very comfortable in dealing with high value transactions with OPT having spent the best part of $16K with them in the last few months.

As the last reviewer said- if you can afford this mount & it suits your equipment then go for it-your astronomy will be revolutionized & having a computer permanently connected is no detriment as I use CCD photography as a given. My location is not terribly dark so the CCD gives me the effects of dark skies.

Great American Product!
I have been using the Paramount MX for a couple of weeks now and have had a good chance to check it out.

This mount is extremely well engineered and designed.
The weight is light enough to use this as a portable unit – compare this to other mounts and it wins hands down.

Using TPoint I’m seeing 30 arc-sec of accuracy throughout the sky – very useful for 3900mm of focal length!

The periodic error is +/- 0.3 arc sec!! This was measured with PEMPro – I can’t believe how low this number is – will measure again.

I have been using a QSI 583 wsg with a LodeStar for guiding – rock solid pictures are the result!

Also, because the mount is a USB hub I will be running a USB extension system from the observatory into the house for control of the system when it is soooo cold here in Dec-Jan-Feb.

Expensive mount but you get what you pay for. Highly recommended if you can afford it.

Product Questions

Hi can you post to Australia . Thanks

Regarding portability of this mount, are Allen wrenches required for setup/takedown? My current method is setup/takedown each night I am out and I am trying to compare ease of use to my EM200 (I understand weight capacity differences). Thx!

Would like some information about battery support of the MX. Can one use existing 12 volt batteries with a 12 to 48Volt boost converter? what type of interface cable is used with the mount to interface with a battery system. Field use in dark spots.
