ASA DDM85X Direct Drive Mount
The ASA DDM85X Direct Drive Mount was specially developed by ASA with the goal of stability, while retaining good transportability! It incorporates 85mm thick hollow axles, massive tapered roller bearings, and motors providing even higher torque with excellent control. This model is also equipped with very accurate encoders. This version (which is called the "Standard" by ASA) of the DDM85 has an impressive loading capacity, so it will support up to 143.3lbs (65kg) of telescope and instrument weight! Not only that: Its outer case is manufactured from high-grade carbon fiber, which means its appearance stands out among the rest. This mount incorporates the mechanical parts, motors, encoders, and ancillary electronic components necessary to operate as a superb Direct Drive Go-To mount, with the appropriate external computer and software. This model also incorporates wiring internal to the hollow axles, so that the USB ports, the Power connector, and the Data Link sockets are located on the mount plate. This eliminates potential tangling of cables which might occur during tracking or slewing! Requires nominal 12VDC for operation, which can be derived from a car battery. This mount can slew up to 13° per second.
The ASA DDM85X Direct Drive Mount was designed to function as an equatorial mount and to be attached to a tripod or a fixed pier. Because any pier measurements and angles are going to be specific to a particular client's location and requirements, the optional equatorial pier can be manufactured by ASA to be aligned exactly to suit its client's observatory's installation site. The DDM85X Standard Direct Drive Mount by ASA incorporates a base which has two knobs which allow the user to easily adjust the elevation and azimuth of the polar axis, for easier polar alignment! This product also includes the following hardware: an ASA 85DC1 Aluminum Dovetail Plate, and two (2) ASA 5.2kg Counterweights, to make your installation easier!

In addition to its impressive loading capacity (instrument weight) of up to 143.3lbs (65kg), its higher torque motors and guiding accuracy is second to none and can easily be compared to larger mounts. Especially important to this design was the expertise of Phillip Keller, physicist and engineer, whose years of experience in the area of large telescope systems was invaluable for ASA's product development!
In common with ASA‘s other mounts, the ASA "Autoslew" software provides perfect pointing and tracking operation. ASA‘s Autoslew software package is included with this product, to support automated pointing, precision tracking, and remote control via the internet.
This ASA product is a special order item and requires a 20% deposit when you place your order, and the balance will be required before the item leaves Austria.
