ZWO ASI120MC Color Astronomy Camera
When it comes to imaging, do you want to do a little bit of everything? The ZWO ASI120MC Color USB 2.0 CMOS Camera can image the moon & planets, it can image the sun with the proper filtration, it comes with a 150º lens adapter for "all sky camera" views, and the ASI120MC is sensitive enough to capture bright deep-sky objects! This camera from ZWO is truly a "do everything" camera, but at way less than the competition! The ZWO ASI120MC camera uses a 1/3" CMOS AR0130CS sensor, with a pixel array of 1280 x 960 and a pixel size of 3.75 um. Peak QE is 75%, with no fixed pattern noise! An IR-cut window is included that will protect the sensor. A major bonus is the inclusion of a 150º wide angle lens adapter! When connected to the camera, you can do super wide angle shots similar to that produced by an all-sky camera. Capture images of the Milky Way stretched overhead, or record the look of the night sky you experienced on a special vacation. With the ZWO Astronomy Camera, you can do it all! One of the major features of the ZWO ASI120MC camera is its ability to deliver up to 215 frames per second at reduced resolution, or up to 35 fps at full resolution. The wide range of capture resolution settings available with this camera allows you to go from planetary imaging to deep-sky quickly and easily, without the need for another camera. The beautiful red housing of the ASI120MC is made of aluminum, and sports a USB and ST4-type auto guider port. 6.5-foot cables for both are included in the box. The 2" interface has M42X0.75 internal threads. A standard M42 to 1.25" nosepiece rounds out the package. The underside of the camera has one 1/4-20 thread in its center, and four M4 threads evenly spaced around the outside edge. This camera comes with a 2m long USB cable, a 2m long ST4 guider cable, 1.25" IR-cut window, 150º wide angle lens adapter, Driver & Software CD, and a M42-1.25" nosepiece. Software on the CD includes the users manual, Windows camera driver, ASCOM Driver, SharpCap Image Capturing Software, FireCapture Image Capturing software, and Stakkert 2 Stacking Software.

- Best video camera I've ever purchased
I bought my 1st one of these last year and liked it so much I bought a 2nd one.
This is by far the best planetary video camera I've purchased (this is the 4th
different video camera I've tried). I'm using Handy AVI for the software and its
easy to adjust the settings and I never lose the signal as I've had that problem
with several similar cameras. I especially like the fish eye that comes with it.
Great camera for the moon also. Forget the other ones, this is the best on the

I purchased this camera so I could get better Solar System images than I was able to achieve with a NexImage 5. I live in Ohio, and seeing and transparency are often poor. This camera has given me excellent results.
These are the best of the images, and a variety of images.
Mars, Saturn, Lunar, Full disc Sun (mosaic), a solar close up, and solar prominences.
The planetary images with my CPC 800, and the Solar images with a Lunt 80 PT BF1200.
I am very satisfied.

Great Camera, it worked straight out of the box.
On second use I was able to do some great imaging of sun using a Meade Solar Max 60 with the camera at prime focus.

I’ve added this device to my equipment, the goal was to achieve good planetary images, find here the first light of the camera aiming Mars, objective accomplished? look at the photo and judge it yourselves, details: 6oo frames with newtonian 8 inches F6 SW, 3x barlow, Neq6 SW mount and ZWO ASI 120mc camera in prime focus, from urban sky. Acquisition: Sharpcap, stacking: Autostakkert plus wavelets.
I haven't tested the product as a guide cam nor as an all-sky camera yet.

MichelQuestion by: Michel on Jan 30, 2016 6:22:00 AMThe monochrome version is approximately 4x as sensitive and has ~1/2 the noise due to no Bayer Matrix, so that translates to 8x or ~ 2.3 magnitude difference in detecting faint guide stars. The tablet would need to be running a variant of Windows that could run the camera drivers properly, and you might see a loss in speed based on the processing power of the tablet. At full data rate (~35 frames/second at 1280x960) in uncompressed 8 bit format, you will need ~6-8GB of hard drive space per minute recorded, so make sure that you have a lot of spare space on the drive and move old videos to thumb drives as needed to free up space. These cameras could connect to a DVR that has the correct input, though you would still need to control the settings of the camera from either the rear buttons of the camera or a video hand controller (standard with one camera, optional with the other). I use the monochrome ASI120MM as an All Sky camera in my observatory bolted onto a ball head connected to shelf on a desk, and I can do time lapses of the Milky Way as well as watch my scope track through the sky. The camera has a 1/4"-20 tapped hole on the back, so you can lay it on the table or use a ball head like I am to adjust the tilt.Answer by: Chris (Admin) on Jul 28, 2014 1:49:17 PMI read where there might be some compatibility troubles plugging this USB2 camera into a USB3 port (even though USB3 is supposed to be backward compatible). Is this still an issue or has ZWO overcome the problem?Question by: Jim on May 15, 2016 8:00:00 PMMost of the issues reported were actually the reverse of this - where the USB3.0 cameras had issues with USB2.0 ports. Except for one case a year or so ago where a customer's laptop where had a bad USB3.0 port or driver (it wouldn't talk to a USB 3.0 camera either), we have not heard of a case where the USB2.0 cameras had issues on a newer laptop.
That being said, ZWO is no longer updating drivers for the USB2.0 cameras, so we recommend that you get the USB3.0 version of the camera to be safe.Answer by: Chris Hendren on May 16, 2016 11:23:00 AMI have two questions:

You will need to remove the 150 degree lens while using it at prime focus. The camera and guider can not be used at the same time.
