QHY 9 CCD Camera with KAF-8300 Sensor
& Five Position 36mm Filter Wheel
The QHY9 CCD Camera comes with the super popular 8.3 MP full-frame KAF-8300 monochrome sensor, with an active array of 3326 x 2504 pixels and a pixel size of 5.4um. The QHY 9 camera body features two-stage TEC cooling to -40ºC for great thermal noise control. Features like a built-in mechanical shutter, a regulated TEC controller, a USB 2.0 high speed interface and 16-bit analog-to-digital conversion make this economical CCD camera one to beat.
TrueSense KAF-8300 Information
The Kodak KAF-8300 CCD sensor is a chip built specifically for your imaging needs. A specialized four thirds format allows you to capture "wide screen style" images in stunning high resolution. Extremely low noise keeps imaging processing to a minimum and a high dynamic range ensures you're capturing every detail.

Product QuestionsQuestion by: zach on Jul 10, 2015 1:48:00 PMQuestion by: rustigsmed on Aug 12, 2014 11:44:07 AMI spoke to our QHY distributor and he said that they will soon have a QHY9 package available with a 7x36mm filter wheel. The price will be slightly higher than the 5 position wheel package, but the pricing has not been set in stone yet as the 7 position wheels have not arrived yet.Answer by: Chris (Admin) on Aug 13, 2014 7:14:48 AMDid they ever come out with the 7 position FW package? Does this product take unmounted filters? You list mounted on the related products but all of the QHY FW use umounted from what I can tell. Also, the last picture has an OAG. What model is in the photo? Thank you.Question by: Mike Rogers on Dec 15, 2015 9:38:00 AMMike, these are all great questions! There is a 7 filter wheel option available. There are actually two. The first option is the Ultra Slim Medium Filter Wheel priced at $499 (ITEM # QH-CFW2-MUS-36) which takes 36mm unmounted filters. A 2-pin socket is needed to support this camera. (It attaches easily to the QHY11,QHY21/22/23 and InterCam series cameras via 4-pin socket.)
The second option is the Medium (or standard) 7 position filter wheel which also accepts 36mm unmounted filters (ITEM # QH-CFW2-M-36) it runs $499, as well, and would also connect via 2-pin socket.
As for the OAG, something like the Starlight Express (TEM # SX-SLFW-OAG) at $245 would work perfectly. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call.Answer by: Ginny Gibson (Admin) on Dec 15, 2015 4:16:00 PMCan the eyepiece adapter shown on the filter wheel be removed to attach an OAG. Preferably a TS OAG for minimum back focus?Question by: Mark Holbrook on Jul 25, 2015 3:16:00 PMAs QHY includes a version of their CFW2 in this package, the removable nosepiece reveals a T-thread (M42 x 0.75). This will allow interface with the TS OAG9 (T-thread version), as well as a variety of other OAGs, including the one offered by QHY (offering a 15MM path-length).Answer by: Eric Blackhurst (Admin) on Jul 28, 2015 5:15:00 PMQuestion by: paulchess10 on Sep 22, 2014 1:56:46 AMThe filter wheel that comes with the QHY9 will only work with 36mm filters.
There will not be vignetting with 36mm filters - however there will be light fall-off resulting in darker corners.
Vignetting is a mechanical obstruction caused by a chokepoint in the light. Using a 1.25" nosepiece or 1.25" filters would likely vignette because the light come from the inside of the nosepiece would be narrow enough to cast shadows against the corners of the CCD.
Fall-off is naturally occurring darkening at the corners caused by the non-infinite size of the secondary and the telescope's focal length. All telescopes will focus more light on-axis than off-axis for this reason, and you will still need to shoot flat field images to correct the illumination in the corners.Answer by: Chris (Admin) on Sep 22, 2014 10:45:47 AMSo I have an Astrotech field flattener which requires 57mm back focus. This camera shows it has 35mm. So would I just need to get a 22mm spacer to be good to go?Question by: Jason on Feb 10, 2016 10:44:00 AMThat's essentially correct. Generally, the AstroTech field flattener is noted as working well at 57 +/-4mm, so you do not have to get exactly 22mm. A 15mm T2 spacer + 7.5mm T2 spacer would work just fine, or ther is a variable 20-29mm spacer that would let you tune for best performance.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Feb 12, 2016 6:02:00 PM
