Celestron Skyris 236C Color CMOS Astronomy Camera

Ultra-Sensitive Sony Exmor™ IMX236LQJ CMOS Sensor

CMOS technology is quickly becoming the hottest trend in imaging with the Sony Exmor IMX236 sensor at the forefront. Compared to the IMX136, the IMX236 offers double the sensitivity in the near-infrared. The IMX236 is the ideal mix of speed, sensitivity and value. You'll achieve results that closely emulate those of more costly imagers, at a price that's more appropriate for a nascent astro-imager. At only 2.8 microns, the IMX236's tiny pixel size provides more resolution and needs less focal length than larger pixel cameras, a huge benefit for planetary imaging. Small to medium telescopes do not need to concede sensitivity to attain a larger image scale.

Celestron Partners with The Imaging Source

The Imaging Source has been designing astronomical imaging cameras that are famous for their quality, performance and value for many years, raising planetary imaging from the level of casual pastime into a sophisticated art form. Now, The Imaging Source designers have teamed up with Celestron's engineers to develop the Skyris camera line.

Skyris combines The Imaging Source's unequaled knowledge with Celestron's ingenious design. These user-friendly cameras provide the perfect method for creating stunning astro-images, whether you're an advanced user or an amateur. Take sharper, higher-resolution shots of the Sun, Moon, and planets than ever before.

Send More Data, Faster with USB 3.0

USB 3.0 connections give Skyris incredibly fast image download capability. More notable is the Skyris' CMOS sensor, which when subframed on planets, is capable of capturing up to 200 frames per second. Alternately, for lunar and solar imaging, you can image the full 2.3 megapixel 1/3" sensor at 60 frames per second.

As a one-shot color camera, the Skyris 236C gives you the ability to take full-color images instantaneously. It eliminates the need for imaging the same target over and over again in order to capture the various colors. Furthermore, you'll no longer need to buy a filter wheel and filters.

The Skyris 236C's Celestron-designed body helps dissipate heat to decrease the effect of thermal noise. Skyris cameras do not contain an optical window, making cleaning your camera a much simpler task. This also guarantees maximum light transmission with no possibility of internal reflections.

A Complete Imaging Solution

All Skyris cameras come with Celestron iCap capture software as well as stacking software. This software package permits effortless camera control, image capture, and image or movie file exporting. Afterwards you'll filter your images and stack the finest shots to build your masterpiece.

The Skyris 236C also includes a 10 foot USB 3.0 cable and 1.25" nosepiece. This package features everything necessary to start imaging the Sun, Moon, or planets.

Using Skyris as an AutoGuider

The Skyris camera doubles as a fine autoguider. When used with a Celestron mount, Skyris connects as a DirectShow device or WDM-style webcam. Simply plug the hand control into the provided serial cable with an optional USB to RS-232 adapter. Skyris also supports popular software such as MaxIm DL or freeware such as PHD Guiding.
