DetailsDetailing the most intriguing and visually stunning objects in the Southern night sky, Imaging the Southern Sky: An Amateur Astronomer's Guide is your companion to capturing those objects that lie south of the celestial equator. Many of these objects can be viewed and captured from the northern hemisphere, including from locations in the USA and Europe. Packed with information on over 150 of these objects, this book makes an excellent guide for both the beginning and advanced astrophotographer alike.
Imaging the Southern Sky also features beautiful images from astrophotographer Stephen Chadwick. Imaging mainly from Himatangi Beach in the Manawatu region of New Zealand, where superb dark skies provide the perfect backdrop, the images in this book were captured over a two and half year period. With images published in Astronomy Now and the BBC's Sky at Night magazine, Stephen is also the president of the Horowhenua Astronomical Society.
Author Ian Cooper has been active in the astronomy community for over 40 years and has specialized in southern sky observing and imaging, with over 50 auroral observations to his name since 1978. President of the Palmerston North Astronomical Society and VP to the Horowhenua Astronomical Society, Ian also co-authored "Night Sky Observer's Guide, Vol. III - The Southern Sky" which served as a strategy guide to the writing of Imaging the Southern Sky: An Amateur Astronomer's Guide.
