Vixen VMC110L Modified Cassegrain Telescope with SkyPod GoTo Mount and Tripod
The Vixen VMC110L, is a 110 mm (4.33 inch) aperture modified Cassegrain f/9.4 optical tube assembly . The VMC110L includes a built in flip mirror. With no corrector plate, the VMC110L features a small corrector lens ahead of the secondary mirror. This compact optical tube, with features found on higher end telescopes, is a great grab and go scope.
You'll find the Vixen VMC110L intriguing in its own right, with interesting features including a curved vane secondary mirror spider to reduce diffraction effects, and a correcting meniscus lens just ahead of the secondary mirror, just like its larger cousins, the VMC200L and VMC260L. One sharp scope and one sharp package!
Now let's talk about the Vixen Sky Pod Mount...
 The Skypod is a unique, portable alt-azimuth computer controlled "Go To" mount that evolved from the very successful Vixen Sphinx mount. The Skypod incorporates a compact, computer-controlled Alt-Az system that automatically slews the telescope from one object to another. The 22,000 plus object data base provides an almost endless variety of objects to view and is upgradeable.
 This new and portable GoTo travel mount uses the modified Starbook S hand controller which offers the same innovation, easy-to-use concept that is available on the full-size Sphinx Starbook controller. A display will show you a map of the sky so that you always know where you are. The controller is integrated into the mount. You can take it off for remote control, but you can always put it back for safe storage and transport. This means that for transport you avoid all the separate small parts that are otherwise easily lost. Because the Skypod is based on Vixen's flexible mounting system, a wide variety of telescopes will easily and quickly attach to this mount. Skypod provides good portability combined with ease of use and versatility. You can store the mount and the telescope separately. A bonus for those of us who are tall? The HAL130 aluminum tripod from Vixen is lightweight, at just over 7 lbs, and comes with extra long legs that adjust from 90cm to 130cm (2.95 ft. to 4.56 ft).
A Few Words On The Vixen SkyPod Mount...
"After having used many, many mounting systems over my thirty plus years of observing, I have to say the Skypod is a pure joy to operate. The fully enclosed gear drive and motors are smooth and slew the telescope to almost 4 degrees per second from one object to another.
The tracking is accurate and quiet. I find the compact Starbook controller to be very easy to use with its options of operating the mount with either dropdown menus or scrolling the star chart and clicking Goto when the desired object appears on the display. If you are looking to purchase an automated mount that is very portable and allows you to change the optical tube if you decide upgrade your system, this is the product for you.
Astronomy Magazine found that "Vixen's Skypod Mount, with its StarBook controller provides full go-to capability in a lightweight package" .
