Celestron - C6-SGT XLT Advanced Series Telescope - 6" f/10 Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope on CG-5GT Computerized Mount
Introducing the Celestron C6-SGT, the newest member of the Advanced Series family. The Advanced C6-SGT is Celestron's first new Schmidt-Cassegrain optical system in over a decade. A totally unique aperture size, the C6-S is available in computerized (GT) and non-computerized models.
We're talking about a full 150 mm (5.91") in aperture and a long focal length of 1500 mm (59.06"). This means an equally long focal ratio of f/10 which allows for use of high magnfication. What's more, the Celestron C6-SGT comes equipped with a 6x30 finderscope, a heavy duty CG-5 Equatorial mount and accepts standard 1.25" eyepieces. What more could you ask from a 52 pound telescope that can reach a limiting stellar magnitude of 13.4 and has a resolution of 0.92 arc seconds? How about including a CD Rom of "The Sky" (Level 1)? Now that's a telescope!
Celestron's new German Equatorial mount has precision worm gears on both axes for extremely smooth movement and great stability. The key element that makes this system the most stable in its class is the NEW heavy-duty tripod with larger and more substantial legs (2" stainless steel!), and the beefy center tray, both of which offer excellent damping characteristics for more stable views. The CG-5 also has a convenient latitude scale for easier alignment and an optional polar finder scope for the ultimate in precision alignments.
Celestron is proud to offer the GT version of the Advanced Series on a computerized GoTo version of their sturdy CG-5 mount. Engineers at Celestron have coupled this solid mount with a computerized control system to utilize many of the same functions and features as their most advanced GoTo telescopes, including, among other things, an Autoguider port for long exposure deep sky astrophotography. GoTo models are also upgradeable to GPS with the optional CN16 GPS Accessory (#93963), allowing your telescope to pinpoint your position on the earth and to upload the date and time, making the alignment process faster and easier than ever before!
GoTo versions of the Advanced Series also come loaded with new software features and over 40,000 database objects. Since the mount is capable of holding over 35 lbs of payload and slewing at 4º per second, you will be able to quickly point to any of the celestial objects in the database.
Celestron - C6-SGT XLT - 6" f/10 Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope on CG-5GT Computerized Mount Features....

Very Satisfied
I bought this C6 in Decmeber 2008. The first clear night (20 degrees F I set it up in our driveway and attempted my first two star alignment. I then told it to go to a nearly full moon. I was astounded to find it perfectly centered in the eyepiece. It tracked almost perfectly. I then mounted my D-40 Nikon prime focus and took a nice shot of the Orion Nebula. This thing is going to be great. Thanks to Chris Hendren who took an innordinate amount of time to answer questions and help us choose this scope. I believe I will be more pleased as time goes by.
Thanks,
Bill |

Celestron C6 is a winner
Celestron really got it right with this scope. I received the C6 a few days before a planned dark sky outing to watch the Geminids. After one short night working with the scope at home under a light polluted sky, I felt totally ready to use it for a night of serious dark sky astronomy. The pointing accuracy and ease of use are wonderful, but more importantly, the scope is an awesome performer on deep sky objects. Wow! M1 really does look like something through a high quality 6 scope - something I had forgotten. The mount is also surprisingly rugged and stable for being so portable. I have a 30-year old C-14 so I am a bit spoiled, but this new C6 really won me over fast for it's ease of use. |
