Vixen ED115S f/7.7 ED Refractor on Sphinx SXD Mount and HAL-130 Tripod
The newly designed high definition ED lens on the Vixen ED115S gives excellent optical performance with a short optical tube for easy handling. The new ED lenses feature brighter images from the shorter f/7.7 focal ratio and capture crisp, pinpoint star images for your eye’s enjoyment. The new ED glass produces clear and high contrast viewing, virtually free of false color. The design on the Vixen ED115S uses newly developed, environmentally friendly glass technology, free of hazardous lead that helps to support a cleaner global environment. The optical tube comes equipped with a metal carry handle for easy one-hand carrying.
Coupled with a medium f/7.7 focal ratio, the ED “S” series new lenses focus the full visible spectrum of visible light to a critical point much more accurately than past ED product. The ED115S lenses are almost free of chromatic aberration in all colors and are critically sharp edge to edge. The astro-photographer will be especially pleased with the high contrast images through this telescope. The big Vixen 60mm drawtube means these refractors can handle the full line of Vixen drawtube accessories. Vixen finishing touches include standard flip-mirror, carry handle, and focus tension/lock. The top carry handle also includes a 1/2-20 stud for piggyback camera mounting. Vixen's new Dual Speed Focuser, now standard on the ED115, provides fine focus adjustments for 1/7th speed focusing. The Vixen ED 115SWT comes standard with 7X50 optical finder, finderscope bracket, 2”dual speed focuser, dual T-thread flip-mirror with dual 1¼” eyepiece adapters, 125mm tube rings, carry handle and dovetail tube plate.
Now let's talk about the Vixen Sphinx SXD Mount...
While the new deluxe version of the Vixen Sphinx mount might look similar to the Sphinx SXW standard model, the changes that have happened under the hood are huge! Incorporating one piece hardened steel RA and DEC shafts with needle bearings throughout, the new Vixen Sphinx D can easily handle a load capacity of up to 50 pounds. Other standard features include PEC (periodic error correction), and the incredibly accurate Vixen SX Polar Axis Finder.
The Vixen Sphinx SXD equatorial mount and StarBook controller have been intelligently engineered for high-speed automatic location of celestial objects. It is now possible to explore the beauty of the night sky with greater ease and stability. The Vixen Sphinx Mount comes standard with built in motors and the world's first star chart go-to controller, Vixen StarBook, with a large full color LCD display. The Sphinx’s design is exceptional and the exterior styling is equally attractive.
When it comes to great features, you'll find them all on the Vixen SXD Sphinx Mount: 180-tooth worm gears for fine full circle motion, up to 50 lbs. recommended loading capacity for a wide range of optical tubes, built-in DC servo motors allow for improved motion of the polar axis rotation and reduce the need for heavy counterweights, a retractable counterweight shaft provides easy storage and transportation, illuminated polar axis scope, utilizes the standard Vixen dovetail bracket for attachment of telescopes and has a 12V, center pin positive power supply. What's more, the Vixen SXD Sphinx Mount comes on an improved SX-HAL130 heavy duty aluminum tripod.
