William Optics 90mm Megrez
I currently own 2 W.O. refractors. The 66mm and the 90mm Megrez. I can only say the quality is outstanding. I just love looking at the scope mounted on a Alt-az mount. The views are excellent for an APO in this price range and any color discrepancies are hardly noticeable to the casual observer/photographer. I have always wanted a quality APO but could not afford one that suited my requirements. The 60mm was first, I then purchased a 80mm which I traded up to the 90mm. I currently own an 8-inch Zummel Dob, an ETX125 a Coronado PST and these two refractors. And I have to say the 90mm megrez is my goto scope at a moments notice. The mechanics are smooth and precise. It holds large 2-inch eyepieces with ease, my DSLR and W.O. Bino-viewers are no problem for the massive linear power focuser currently installed on this model scope. I have plans to mount both the ZS60mm and the 90mm Megrez on ... |

A beautiful scope and an excellent value!
The Megrez 90 exudes quality both mechanically and optically. The pinpoint stellar images are a delight and there's virtually no false color. I love it. The only negatives I've discovered are the integrated tripod foot gets in the way of the mounting rings and is not the same height as the mounting rings so it does not sit flat on the W.O. dovetail plate (you can't use it and one mounting ring to attach it to the dovetail. Also, my particular scope's tripod foot came with metric threads. The norm is suppose to be 1/4-20. The only other concern was the tiny plastic set screws that secure the focuser to the rest of the scope and allow you to rotate the focuser. These 3 screws are all that keep your eyepieces and cameras from falling to the ground. When I tried to tighten them, one threaded completely through the casting. I've since replaced them with longer, stainless steel set scr... |

90mm Amazing Views!!
Having owned a Celestron C11, I wanted a smaller high quality refractor to use either independently as a grab & go scope or atop the C11 as a guidescope. The William Optics Megrez 90mm FD APO fit the bill perfectly.
The first impression that one gets when unpacking the instrument is that the case is rugged, high-quality, and not cheap by any means (a good start. The second impression after opening the case is that the 90mm, while compact, is a pretty decent size apo sitting nicely in the well-padded interior of the case. Upon lifting the instrument out of the case, you know that you have hit paydirt - the scope is not flimsy light neither is it overtly heavy. The feel of the scope is that of well-designed quality. The back focuser and included carbon-fiber 2 star diagonal are examples of engineering excellence. The finish is a rugged white matte coating and overall appearance... |
