The new Orion Short Tube 80 OTA is an improved version of the original Orion ShortTube 80 telescope, with fully multi-coated optics that reveal brighter, sharper images. Add your own accessories to the Orion ShortTube 80 and it will become a fantastic astronomy telescope that is portable enough to take anywhere. The 80mm objective lens and short 400mm (f/5.0) focal length are perfect for taking in wide swaths of the heavens, making it ideal for larger deep-sky objects. You'll see spectacular star clusters, wispy nebulas, and expansive galaxies with this telescope, but it also excels at viewing objects in our solar system. Enjoy experiencing the phases of the Moon and tracking the motions of the planets with crisp views of Saturn's rings and Jupiter's moons.
Orion ShortTube 80mm OTA
Multi-coating on all air-to-glass optical surfaces of the Orion ST80 ensures maximum light transmission for sharp, accurate image fidelity.
If you are looking for a lightweight, fast guidescope, consider the Orion ShorfTube 80 OTA. It will attach easily to your larger primary telescope tube assembly with the proper rings and dovetail, and will accept your digital SLR, small CCD camera, or a stand-alone autoguider.

- For $130 each, get 2!
This scope is awesome for $130!! After I got it, I picked up a 99% dielectric diagonal, and took it up to a dark site. Dropped in my 32mm Telvue plossl, and BAM.. There was NGC 7000, North American Nebula! I think it goes to show, that an 80mm scope for $130 that can show you NGC 7000, is worth getting.. period!! Everything from a plossl to a nagler, is tack sharp edge to edge, and contrast is great! This is a must get scope!

Product QuestionsQuestion by: jasie22 on Dec 10, 2014 3:29:02 AMThis version does not have a tripod mount. You might want to look into the OR-9946 terrestrial version for $179.99 as this version has a tripod mount, finderscope, diagonal and 2x 1.25" eyepieces. The focuser is 1.25" on both versions of the scope.Answer by: Chris (Admin) on Dec 10, 2014 6:47:32 AMCan I combine this OTA with the Orion 105mm Guide Scope Rings (OR-7381) and the Orion Guide Scope Ring Mounting Bar (OR-7382), and then install them on Celestron 8" EdgeHD OTA with CGE Mount Plate(CE-91030-XLT)?Question by: Marcelo Ribeiro on Oct 15, 2015 10:46:00 AMThe rings and guidescope, yes, but the OR-7382 plate, no. You will need to attach the 105mm guidescope rings to clamps like the AA-DPA or LO-DVA clamps and then use a Celestron CE-94216 dovetail to bolt upside down on top of the EdgeHD 8" scope. The clamps will then attach to the rings and clamp to the top of the dovetail. You may need to source 6mm screws from a hardware store if the screws that come with the 105mm rings or clamps cannot be used.Answer by: Chris Hendren on Oct 20, 2015 11:40:00 AMHi, I purchased this model of Orion ST80 some time ago--this Item # (OR-9948)--which does not have any mounting hardware with it--no mounting rail, mounting rings, etc.--to use as a guidescope on my larger SCT, but now I've decided to use it all by itself, mounted to my Vixen Porta-II alt-az mount. Can you tell me what mounting rail and/or rings I would need to get from you to securely mount this scope to my Porta-II mount? And would I need to drill holes in the ST80's tube to attach the rail, etc??
Thanks!Question by: Jim on Oct 7, 2015 3:14:00 PMThe diameter of the tube on the OR-9948 is 90mm, so the appropriate rings are the OR-7370 set and the best dovetail will likely be the OR-7383, although you may have to mount one ring inward from the end of the dovetail as you may not have a full 8" of tube to separate out the rings that much.Answer by: Chris Hendren (Admin) on Oct 7, 2015 5:32:00 PM
