An Overview of Celestron Eyepieces

Quality Celestron Eyepieces

Celestron provides several different classes of eyepieces to meet the needs of their users. A detailed description of each eyepiece series is listed below starting with the standard Celestron eyepieces and ending with their highest quality models.

Celestron Ultima Series

Celestron's Ultima eyepieces were voted best in their class by Sky & Telescope magazine. These Celestron eyepieces use a 5-element hybrid optical design, and feature long eye relief and a wide field of view. Each air-to-glass surface on all Ultima Celestronc eyepieces are fully multicoated to enhance contrast levels. The Ultima series of Celestron eyepieces was computer designed to keep visual aberrations to an absolute minimum. They virtually eliminate the following aberrations: spherical, color, field curvature, coma, astigmatism, distortion and spherical distortion of the exit pupil. The inside surfaces and edges of all lenses are blackened to keep out reflected light. Outside surfaces are flat black and include rubber grips for secure handling. Rubber eyecups are also included both for comfortable use and to keep out extraneous light. Threaded barrels accept Celestron 1-1/4" thread-in filters. Lens and barrel caps are included for safe storage of your Ultima eyepiece.

Celestron Axiom Series

The Axiom's are the top-of-the-line for Celestron eyepieces. They were produced as an extension of the popular Ultima line, and offer a wider field of view in both 1.25" and 2" barrel sizes. All Axiom oculars feature a 7-element design to give you tack-sharp star images across their extra wide, 70° apparent field of view (excluding the 50mm, which has a 50º apparent field of view). Each Axiom eyepiece is fully multicoated with extra large pop-up eyecups to block unwanted stray light. Like the Ultima series, the Axiom series of Celestron eyepieces have an optical design that minimizes the following aberrations: spherical, color, field curvature, coma, astigmatism, distortion and spherical distortion of the exit pupil. The edges of the optical elements are blackened to minimize internal reflections and increase contrast. 1-1/4" threaded barrels accept 1-1/4" Celestron filters.
